Spring antics
This Spring has been epic! From the start of October through to mid November have been away most weekends on cool trips around the South West. Bliss.
Rottnest Island
October started with the Fremantle Triathlon Club training camp on Rottnest.
Tour de Gracetown & Cowtown
The following weekend I headed down to Margaret River with the a double whammy of the Tour de Gracetown and Tour de Cowramup - around 100km road cycling events.
Cape to Cape MTB
A few days later my friend joined and we did the Cape to Cape MTB. This was a four-day mountain biking stage race across the best singletrack in the South West. It covers approximately 200km and 2500m climbing.
It started in Cape August, then moved to Nannup, Margaret River and the final day was in Dunsborough.
My favourite day was the Nannup day, the trails were sublime, flowy and grippy in beautiful forrest, almost like Rotorura. I had a blast and I’m even featured on the event’s instagram!
Tour of Margaret River
Two weeks later I was back down for the Tour of Margaret River with the South Perth Rouleurs. This was a 3-day cycle tour around the Nanup, Margaret River and Dunsborough areas. My team came 4th in our division and I got 3rd for Queen of the Mountains in my age group. It’s the largest cycling event in Australia and was featured on the local news
Run Bibbulmum
Last weekend I wrapped things up with the Run Bibbulmun trail running event. This was a 3-day trail run event covering 65km and 1300m of climbing across the coastal area around Denmark. I didn’t go down to ‘race’, just enjoy the trail running and atmosphere but I finished in the middle of my age agroup.
R&R
Now it’s a few weeks of active recovery before heading back to NZ for Christmas and New Year where I’l be doing the Suffer quarter distance triathlon and Surfbreaker sprint tri - one of my favourites. It’s been a great year of trying out a heap of new events in Perth and the South West along with the Cross Triathlon worlds in Townsville.
