Trail Running Trips
I lived in Wellington from 2007-2018 and was an active member of the Scottish Athletics club. Over the years I organised many runs, from regular Sunday long runs, to trips around Wellington, wider New Zealand and Rarotonga. Below are some of my favourites:
Waiheke Island
In 2016 I created a running trip to Waiheke. We flew Wellington-Auckland, got the skybus to the ferry, and hired a car on the Island, basing ourselves in a retro bach on the beautiful Onetangi Beach in the middle of the Island. I used the Te Ara Hura trail network as the base for routes and over the course of the weekend we ran around fabulous bays and headlands, out to the most remote point at Stony Batter and to the highest point on the island.
Bridge To Nowhere
In 2015 a group of us ran the Bridge To Nowhere track (with one former runner on a bike)
Rarotonga
In 2013, I organised a group from Scottish to take part in the Round Rarotonga Road Race - which is a festival of running events across a week with the main event being a lap of the Island. There was also a relay and cross-island trail run.
Colonial Knob
Every now and again a group of us would get a lift out to Colonial Knob near Porirua, and run back to Ngaio via the Skyline Track and Mt Kau Kau.
