Summary of group fitness classes I’ve done in the past in NZ
MovNat & Animal Flow
With origins in Parkour, MovNat helps you improve your agility for sports or daily life. It’s practical and applied fitness, with real-world applications, and playful!
Animal Flow is fun, ground-based movement, designed to improve strength, power, flexibility, mobility, and coordination - for all levels.
MovNat Elements workshop
A one-day workshop helping you understand and experience movement principles with MovNat’s movement domains - including crawling, balancing, jumping and climbing.
Participants come away with knowledge of how to incorporate movements into an existing fitness routine or daily life, and ways to progress further.
Imagine you’re out tramping or trail running and need to jump over a stream, cross over a fallen tree, or traverse a slope too steep to walk upright. Or you simply want to enjoy playing with the kids or gardening more easily, because you can lift & carry, or get up and down off the ground with ease.
MovNat helps you to build more physical capability to enjoy your life pursuits, through the practice of a range of movements.
You have fun and also get a sweat on!
MovNat Elements workshop - Bonobo gym, Wellington, New Zealand, August 2021
We ran a MovNat Elements workshop at Bonobo gym recently in Lyall Bay, Wellington (August 2021)
10 people signed up including two from Northland who flew down for the day.
Everyone had a great experience learning about movement principles and experiencing a range of ways to move 'from the ground up' they can apply to their sports or daily life. They had fun learning new ways to mobilise the body, getup and down off the floor, balance, jump, vault and climb.
Most of the group were in their 40-50s with desk-based jobs, and the group had range of active interests outside of work including swimrun, cycling, triathlon, running and crossfit.
As part of the workshop we did a 45 min MovNat-style class which included a warmup, learning a forward roll (Parkour-style) and a couple of 'combos' or 10-15 min block of activity.
In 2nd combo the group did a sequence of of five movements that put everything we had learnt together into a parkour-style flow around the entire gym space. They did a forward roll, traversed a rock-climbing wall, swung across monkey bars, vaulted across various boxes of different heights and completed the loop with an inverse crawl around obstacles.
We completed the active part of the day with some time outdoors putting our newly-learnt tripod balancing and vaulting skills into practice traversing the rocks around the beach at Lyall Bay.
To wrap up I talked the group through how to apply what they'd learnt into an existing fitness routine or at home, along with resources for finding out more and ways to progress further.
Everyone had a great day, learnt something they could apply in real life, and walked out with more mobile hips!
I really enjoyed the experience and thanks to Timon at Bonobo gym for hosting the event. It was a fantastic space to run it in.
Animal Flow
Float Fitness, Mount Maunganui
Animal Flow is fun, ground-based movement, designed to improve strength, power, flexibility, mobility, and coordination - for all levels.

Moves have animal names like crab, scorpion, ape, beast and you build up a flow with moves and transitions.
You can also do interval training using the movements and progress to handstand movements.
No equipment is needed. It’s all bodyweight movement, and great as a mobiliser - you feel amazing afterwards because it works through your lines of fascia and you'll feel like you've had a nice stretch as well as a bodyweight workout.
